We started out slow and stayed that way. We slept in until about 10, then out to grab some croissants so we could have them with our cheese and tomatoes – no luck. It seems that all the bakerys are closed on Sundays. We even tried out little sandwich place, and that was closed as well.
The market was there again, so we wandered a bit, but I needed to get my camera and take some photos of it.
We wandered back to the hotel and waited for Jan. There was a problem on her metro line, so she was late. When we checked in at reception, there was a letter waiting to explain how we get picked up tomorrow for our ride to the airport.
Back to the market, and wandered in and took a bunch of photos, some of the guys said no photos of them, but fine for the fish and fruits. Ok by me, I took their photos anyway. We wandered out to find a new cafe to try. We stopped at one that looked good, and decided to have their brunch. What a lot of food. We had bread and croissants, and then eggs with salmon and then an assortment of cold meats, a salad and some frys. They took away the plates, and we thought that was it – we were wrong, they brought new silverware, and then the best bread pudding I have ever tasted.
We rolled out of that cafe at 3 PM, and we haven’t even started our adventures for the day. On to the metro and over to theisland of Isle de La Cite (Notre Dame). We wandered around, we were looking for a flower market, but really didn’t find it. So we walked along the Siene and marvelled that we were in Paris on a Sunday afternoon walking along the river.
The cafe across the river called our names, so over there to have double express and look at Notre Dame. We stayed there for at least an hour. We were talking and talking. We had desert there – oooo more chocolat, o so good.
The sun was starting to go down, and the colour on the buildings was looking good, so we walked along the river for about 5 minutes, befre Jan spotted the Shakespear bookstore, and said we just had to go in.
This bookstore was so great, very tiny, books stacked to the ceilings, narrow isles, and a small staircase up to the second floor. We loved it, taking a lot of photos, wandering around, we lost Jan. SO we went outside and there she was, she thought we were across the way, playing a trick on her – she didn’t think we would be in the bookstore for so long. From there, it was across the street and again we were in the tiny meandering streets of the Latin Quarter, so off we went, looking for another cafe to sit and talk in.
After another hour or more it was time to get back, so up the street, and me snapping photos the whole way, the lights are just coming on, and it looks great.
Out onto the station to wait for our train, and there is Jan on the other side, waiting to go in the opposite direction. So off we went in separate directions. She phoned when she got to her hotel, just to check.
Our last full day in Paris 🙁
