Jan 16 – turtle porn – Isabella Island

We started at 6:30 with a panga ride to a little bay to look at flightless cormorants. There was a seal in the bay as well. On the way back to the boat we saw two turtles making out.
Poached eggs and bacon a toast and fruit for breakfast.
Then back in the pangas to go to shore. We landed were part of a World War Two base was. There were marine iguanas all over and red crabs too. In one little spot the was a baby seal playing. He came to within 5 feet of us. Then back to the boat.
About 15 minutes after we were underway the shout came that we had whales. So everyone scrambled up the stairs grabbed cameras and out to the bow. We saw him breach once.
We crossed the equator into the southern hemisphere. We celebrated by having everyone on the bridge and drinking a toast.
Lunch was shrimp and octopus and salad and veggies. I had steak again. Good, and fruit for desert.
Then off to snorkel at Punta Vincenta Roca. I played chicken with a turtle. He won. We got told “Don’t touch the turtles” or I’ll drown you. I watched penguins fish and played with a sea lion. We also saw turtle porn up close this time. I believe I have video. I haven’t looked yet. Lots of fish and turtles with the Penguins thrown in for fun. It was a great time in the water. But I had to get in and go back to the boat – darn.
The rest went for a panga ride along where we snorkelled. I’m downloaded the video from snorkelling and thought about a nap.
After the panga got back we hoisted anchor and headed off around the top of Isabella to Fernandina for supper. Along the way there was the shout for Orcas. Everyone scrambled up to catch s glimpse or a photo or two. I didn’t get any except a black dot on the ocean! We meandered way off course and had to find our way back.
Steak for everyone tonight. And a briefing about tomorrow.
We have been blessed with cold showers most of this trip. I asked Juan about it tonight and he said because where the cabin is the taps are reversed.
