Awake at 5:00. They started the engines and away we go. Off to Elizabeth Bay on Isabella.
We took a detour to run with the dolphins. They swam at the prow of the boat, jumping all around us. Then grab your swim suit and snorkel gear, we are going in with them! We got ahead of them and watched as they moved around us in the water. Into the water and watch them. Zoom and they are gone. Back into the panga and race to get ahead of them, then back into the water to watch them go by. Poof and they are gone. Back into the panga and back to the Samba.
To relax – I don’t think so. Off to take a tour through the mangroves. Nice quiet shallow water. A pelican or two. A striated heron and o, some sting rays zooming around. And a marine iguana swimming by. We played around in the mangroves for a while then slowly made our way back to the Samba. We stopped by an out crop of lava to take a photo or 300 of blue footed boobies, flightless cormorants and Pelicans. Then back to the boat.
Now to relax a bit before lunch – nope. Get your suits back on and into the pangas again for another snorkel tour. This time in a labyrinth of lava among fish and turtles. We got back into this one area were we had to go single file through a very shallow opening. It opened up into a deep (30ft) ” pond” full of turtles. About 50 of them just swimming around. We made our way back through the labyrinth more fish and rays around us. In this area fresh water and ocean combine so we had some warm spots and some cold spots. Captain Jose lead us back through to the pangas. At one point he came back and grabbed my hand and dragged me through the water over to see some rays. Where we all came on board and said WOW! Did you see that. And to think I was going to pass on this, but Jaun talked me into to going. We made our way back to the Samba.
It is only 12 noon, and we’ve done so much. I need a nap. Lunch was good, and now we navigate to the next stop. So we get 1.5hrs to rest and download.
Now off to Punta Moreno and a two hour lava walk! Not. We went for the ride and dropped off most of our group. Then three of us got a ride over to where there are penguins and iguanas and cormorants and sea lions and blue footed boobies. We went in and out and around snapping like fools. The back to the Samba and rest. And wait for the rest to wander back from their hot long walk.
An early supper and then away.
Tonight actually late afternoon we are making our longest navigation – 10 hrs around the bottom of Isabella to Florena Island.
