Thursday
Last day on tour.
It’s going to be a long day, as I have been awake since 3. They washed down the square this morning at 4.
Breakfast was a little different. The usual stuff, but you were in the kitchen with the cooks when you picked up your food.
The hotel is part of the old train station, so lots of people coming and going from 4:30am on.
We did a tour of the city this morning. Stopped at their opera house, it’s supposed to look like a glacier, ending in the fjord. I suppose, but it’s all angles. Then on around the fortress and palace. The buildings here have more character than in Finland and Sweden.
We walked through the largest park in Europe that had all the statues created by one man. Kinda neat, all naked people from kids to old people, it took the guy 40 years to create it. A lot of other people from other tours milling about and walking into your photo. Some on our tour weren’t happy about that and did some photo bombing of their own.
Then to the Viking Ship Museum. There were 2 full ships and part of another. Lots of relics. Very cool.
Back to the hotel to have a short nap – about 15 minutes. Then rip apart the suitcase and repack to get everything in, including 10 packages of TimTams that have wandered Switzerland before being delivered to us. The best cookie from Australia.
Everything fits, it should, I hardly bought anything except another sweatshirt.
We wandered out to find some lunch. Ended up in the train station at a little market with a ham & cheese on a croissant.
We wandered up the pedestrian street – it was very crowded with begets on every corner. The Romanian Gypsies are everywhere. Into a Catholic Church that was nice and dark, gorgeous windows. Painted ceiling was neat. We gave up bumping into people and wandered back to the hotel.
Along the way we listened to a man and a boy playing accordions – they were great. Back in the square by the hotel, their is a guy playing a tenor sax, sounds so nice with the people and street noise in the background.
We have our Celebration dinner tonight and then we are done.
What a good get together. Good food and great company. Some people took the wrong order so 3 of us had to wait for our chicken dish. It was piping hot out of the kitchen and excellent. We drank, told stories and wished on another safe travels.
Back to the room and got everything ready, and everything fit in the suitcases. Ya!
Another vacation successfully done! Hope this was good as your other ones. Looking forward to seeing you next week. Safe journey home!
