Sept 12
Same as yesterday and the day before and the day before that, up early, got ready, bags out and down for breakfast, then on the bus and away we go.
Today was a long day of driving, nsitting in the coach listening to music and Tony talk. We made two stops one for coffee one for lunch and we made it into Valencia at 3:10.
Same routine again, piled off the coach into the hotel Tony give us the keys and up to the room we went. Then out again at 4:30 and off on a tour of the city. We drove around saw the boring the post office to City Hall and a couple of big squares he dropped us off close to the cathedral and said go away have fun see you at 6:45.
So we wandered up to the cathedral and it was gonna cost seven euros to go into and then we decided we didn’t want to spend the money so we took pictures around the outside and then wandered up and down the streets.
We walked up and down the streets jostling with other tourists and decided what we needed was a gelato so we found a good place got a couple cones and then went back to the little park in front of the cathedral. We people watched for a while especially a little old couple sitting on a bench just having a really good time talking to one another.
Tony showed up and let us all around the cathedral and down the street to the restaurant where we were going to get taught how to make paella. We sat at this long table with the guy at one explaining how to and then halfway down there was a break in the table and there was a guy standing there who translated everything from Spanish and English for us. It sounded kind of easy but a lot of steps to make this. They broke it down into about a 15 minute demonstration. We had the salad for starter that was supposedly had hazel nuts and Allman’s in it but there wasn’t any on mine. Then came the paella was chicken and rabbit. It tasted heavily of Rosemary and not much else even though there’s paprika in it. There was so much food and most people didn’t finish. The best part of the evening was the desert it was absolutely fantastic layers of a rich ice cream or gelato spaced with thin layers of chocolate very good.
After we were finished eating we all came out of the restaurant and try to get run over by the police coming down the little cobblestone street. Everyone was safe. We walked on down the street toward one of the 14th century gates that still standing. Everybody took pictures and then wandered over to where the coach then we were driven back to the hotel.
We had 15 minutes to get ready and go to the rooftop bar so we could join in the wedding ceremony. There’s a couple here from Australia that of been married for 30 years and decided on a lark that it would be good to renew their vows. It started as a joke but then they decided they would go through with it, he bought her a ring and she bought him a watch.
It was a fun ceremony it was a Jewish wedding and neither of them are Jewish. There is a prenuptial agreement that they had to sign saying that if they decided to get divorced that their lawyers would get everything. There was someone to give her away there was a flower girl and they were bridesmaids and there was even a groomsman.
It was a fun time and everybody was laughing and joking and taking pictures. We headed back to the room because we have to get up early again tomorrow.
