Reykjavik

April 30
We crawled out of bed at 6:30 6:45 to get ready for breakfast. We got in before the rush it was a bit of a zoo after we got there everybody going every which way. Food was the normal fare for Europe bread sandwich meat tomatoes eggs cheese in any kind of coffee you want it out of the machine.

After breakfast we went back to the room got ourselves organized for the walk that we were taking this morning and then took off and direction of the church. The biggest building for the tallest building in all Reykjavík it was kind a hard to miss. The weather this morning was not ideal it was +2 and raining/sleet/snowing. Inside of the church was very plain but very tall and very imposing. It’s a Lutheran Church. We met up with our guide at 10 o’clock off we went wandering the streets.
The guide’s name was Olaf, just like in the movie frozen only with two dots over the o’s and female.
We wandered haphazardly up and down streets and around corners looking at the graffiti. Here in Reykjavík they don’t really call it graffiti they call it self expression art and they’re looking for bigger canvases for their main artists to draw and paint on. Some of the “art” looked a little weird. After about an hour we stopped at a bookstore and had a coffee and sat around for 10 minutes drying off.
We wandered on down past an old prison and ended up by the harbor.
This is where the famous hotdog stand is. From there we wandered over to the oldest cathedral which looked like a wooden church by Canadian standards and stood by the main Square we’re all Icelanders go when they want to protest something. OK this is across the street from the Parliament buildings.

We were finished our tour so we went back down to the hotdog stand and stood in line to get the famous hotdog. It was OK , it had fresh onions fried onions some sort of pickled relish spicy mayo a spicy mustard and ketchup, the hot dog was thin and long and it wasn’t the greatest hotdog I’ve ever had but it was OK.
From there we took off toward our hotel at least we hope that was toward our hotel. We’re in the tourist part of the city so every store we had touristy things in it. We almost walked by our hotel when we came back because we never noticed it.
The guide was was very informative on just about every restaurant and bar in this area, which ones have loud music, which ones have no music and which ones where everybody talks politics. We also know where all the microbreweries are and of course the hotdog stand.
