May 5

We have named ourselves –
The Bringers of Snow.
It snowed last night and is snowing off and on this morning, although the sun is also shining.
We had breakfast and then headed off toward the Skaftafell glacier. Through sun, rain, snow, freezing rain, hail we drove up toward the glacier.
When we got there you could hardly see across the parking lot. So no glacier hike for us.
On the drive back I kept stopping to take photos. Trying to stay with the sun. Very nice and warm in the sun but as soon as the clouds roll in the temp feels like it drops 10 degrees. Nice scenery.
Back to Kirkjubaejarklausrur say that fast five times.
Went and found the “church floor” or Kirkjugolf. Just 1/2km from the town. And a short hike up a hill to see a rock surface about 20ft by 20ft. The rocks are hexagonal shaped, similar to the ones we saw on the black beach yesterday and the ones in Ireland.
I have taken a lot of old barn photos so far today, and rocks too.
The day has cleared off with blue sky, but the wind has picked too.
We are at Dverghamrar, in other words, Dwarf Cliffs, sitting in the car and eating our lunch – a pasta salad we got at the supermarket. And a cookie for desert.
We must be the bringer of tourists as well as snow. Every time we stop where there is nobody, a crowd shows up shortly afterward and we have people everywhere.
After our lunch we wandered down and around the cliffs they were kind of neat about 30 ft high and we were out of the wind. They weren’t that large, but there wasn’t anyone else there until we started back up the hill.
From there we headed back towards town. We needed to fill up. Stopped at the station that we could get a discount from and it wouldn’t take my car – I swore a bit then went across the road to the other station in town. The pump wouldn’t take my card either. I went inside and bought a pre-paid card for 5000 Kroners. Then went out and filled the car. I swore some more.
Back to the hotel to rest up for more.
