Saturday
Last week of the tour.
Another day to fight for breakfast if the other tour group is up the same time as we are. Looks cloudy and rain outside and the forecast is the same for where we are going. It was a fight for breakfast. The other tour group came in like locusts and piled their plates. The hotel didn’t replenish the hot food so some of group had cold meat and veggies on bread.
Cool and heavy overcast this morning, hopefully it clears up.
We are off after winning the fight for food. Nice scenic drive around the fjords with a couple of photo stops. The morning break was on a ferry. It was a 20 minute ride across a fjord.
Then in through the mountains. We stopped for lunch at a tiny Cafe. There was a waterfall and a small power station on the river that supplied the power for the little town. We grabbed a quick sandwich and then wandered outside to take photos off the waterfall and river down to the water.
I got so good shots of the waterfall with a slow shutter, hopefully they turn out ok.
Back on the coach and away. We are heading south, so we will cross out of the attic circle. We wound our way up above the tree line to our stop on the line. Of course there is a shop there. There was a bus there from Top Deck Tours – they cater to 18-39 year olds. They had set up a propane stove and were having afternoon tea. It was 7 degrees with a wind. Everyone on our bus said how could those kids do that? I think most of them have forgotten what they did when they were young.
Anyway back on, and away toward Mosjoen
Nice scenery again, and even more because a tunnel was closed so we had to go up and over and that added more time on the coach.
Finally at the hotel, it has been 10 hrs since we first boarded today – very long day.
No one could find their rooms. We went up the elevator only our rooms weren’t there. We didn’t get the traditional part of the hotel, but the new tower, with a different elevator. I think most people are grumpy from the long day.
Now for our buffet supper. There are 3 other buses parked close by, hopefully it won’t be another sh*t show for supper like breakfast was.
Supper was a nice buffet and we were only dodging ourselves as we got our food.
Out for a walk down their old street. The buildings look like old buildings in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Wooden with lots of windows and the frame around the window is painted white. The house are painted that red, mustard yellow and off white.
Nice night for a walk, about 10 degrees and now that we are below the Arctic Circle it might even get close to dark sometime.
