Sept 10

Sept 10
Today was a sleep in day didn’t crawl out of bed till about 8 o’clock. Finally made our way down for breakfast about quarter after nine just as the room most of the rest of the group was leaving for their daytrip. Had breakfast in the crowded room full of a lot of loud Spanish tourists. After breakfast we went back up to the room organize a backpack and off we went to find the town centre.
We stopped at the reception desk and got a map and the guy told us how to get up to the town centre so off we went. We follow directions so well we just went wandering down the road and realized that we gone too far so we had to turn around and come back.
Found the right street and then started walking up hill and around corners and uphill and around more corners and more uphill and around more corners and finally to the top. Actually wasn’t that bad it was an easy slow all the way up. Lots of little shops along the way selling tons of trinkets and scarves and towels and flip-flops and sunglasses and hats. Anything that you didn’t bring to the beach you could buy here.
We wandered up and down the main street looking into the stores, and finally decided we actually really didn’t want to walk very far today so we turned around and headed back. Popped in one store and I picked up a couple of trinkets that I wanted, a coaster and a bottle opener. I’m the last of the big-time spenders.
We stopped at a little store and bought some Coke and then went back to the hotel and up to the room. We needed some ice so I got the bucket and off I went because it said there was an ice machine on the fifth floor. An ice machine is a novelty in Europe. So off I went with a bucket to the fifth floor, only to find out that it was out of order and the closest ice machine was in the other tower on the eighth floor. So we drank our coke without ice just like we’ve done all along.
We settled down on our balcony with a few munchies and watched the world go by. Then it was kind a unanimous decision that maybe we should have a nap. I backed up the photos that I’ve taken on the iPhone so far and then I fell asleep in the chair. Oh darn.
We hadn’t seen the tour guide today yet and we’re going through withdrawl so I went wandering in the hotel to see if I can find him. No luck but I found his little piece of paper that told us what we were doing and at what time so now everything is good. Back up the room to sit around and relax some more. I stopped at the bar and got some ice so now we have cold Coke to drink as we sit on our balcony and watch all the crazy people at the beach.
At 6 we gathered in the lobby, only 16 of us, we jumped on the coach and off for a Mediterranean feast. We drove 15 minutes and ended up back at the beach just down from our hotel. It was a massive meal. There were 6 starters before the main. Salad, garlic shrimp, calamari, anchovies, cod puffs, little clams. Then the main which was sea bass cooked in salt. I had salad, cheese & ham, egg tortilla, deep fried veggies (o so good). I even tried the tiny clams – I could only taste the garlic. For the main I had steak and chips. The steak was great.
The wine was free flowing but very dry and harsh until you ate something. They also served us sweet sherry – otherwise known as jet fuel. That I liked, just like palinka.
We all walked back to the hotel, which was just around the corner even though it took us 15 minutes to drive there. It was a nice walk along the beach. At 10pm it’s 26 degrees with a fresh breeze.
A nice quiet day to relax and get energized for the next 5 days of touring.
