Our first full day. We were wide awake at 4 AM this morning, kind of a rude time to wake up when we went to bed at midenight, and haven’t had much sleep in the past 2 days. So we got up for about 1/2 hr, then got ready for bed again, and crawled back into bed, and we both fell asleep until 10 AM when we heard a PA announcement saying something over and over, so time to get up.
Jan showed up at noon, and then were set off for the day.
First on the agenda – food, we haven’t really eaten much since Saturday. Across the street, a nice little sandwich place, 3 panni, 3 drinks, and 3 flans for desert, about 16$. Good sandwiches, and very good flan.
Now on to the Metro, and off to Arc de Triomphe to take a walk to the top. The metro was very hot, but not a bad ride. We wandered up on to street level, and then had to figure out how to get across the circle to the centre, so we could go up. Found the passage to the Arc, but whne we got there the stairway (284 steps) was closed because of the strike – drats, I really wanted to walk up all these stairs.
So we decided to walk down the Champs Elysees and look in all the expensive stores.
After wandering for a bit, we sat and had a drink at a little cafe. The pigeons were dive bombing us, looking for crumbs. There were also a couple of drunks looking for handouts.
So off we go again. Wandering down George V street towards Le Invalides, we crossed the Siene and watched to boats for a bit. Then on the metro again, and off to Notre-Dame. There was a service going on, and the singing was beautiful. Again, my family would be happy, I said prayers for everyone. We sat for a bit of the service, and then wandered around. We got ushered out as they were closing after the Mass.
We walked back across the Siene, and wandered through the Latin Quarter, down narrow winding streets, looking for a cheap good place to eat as it is now 7 pm. The day has flown by.
We found a place and had some roasted chicken, and talked and laughed. A very good time.
It was starting to get a little dark, so we decided to call it a day. We found our metro station, said good bye to Jan as she was walking up the street to another staion, and we were off on our own. Down and around, following the numbers, we found the right train, got on, and got off at the end, then transferred toanother train, and stayed on until the end of the line again – simple. Wecame up to groind level to find the hotel in front of us – YA!!
We wandered slowly back to the room to put our feet up and download our photos.

Glad to hear that all is going well for you. I am so impressed that once again you were in church saying prayers for your family and friends. Thanks so much. I am very envious of you having flan there – I love that stuff! And I’m just envious that I’m not there with you enjoying it. Have a great time.
