rainy day in Paris

we made lunch in the room, fresh crossiants and ham and cheese, fresh tomatoes and peppers as well. We sat and talked and decided where to go. Off to the tower, but wait when we got outside, it was raining, so back into the room to get our rain jackets, and off in a different direction – down.
Off to the catacombes – really down under. On to the metro for a short trip up the line. when we got off, we didn’t know where to go, so we wandered a bit, and finally asked some people, no one seemed to know where to go. Then finally this older lady, walked us to the door, and down we went – about 183 steps down.
Wow, we went down, and down, and around and around (small circular staircase). Then walked along the semi-dark tunnels, 6 feet wide and about 6.5 ft high. We walked a long way before we came to the sacred grouund where all the bones were. Then we walked through a maze of tunnels looking at all teh bones, and trying to decipher the french signs.
We were down there about an hour and a half. Stopping here and there to take photos. The back up only 84 steps to the surface. We walked back out to the main road and found a small cafe to sit and talk about the place, and of cource to have some creme caramel and tea.
We decided to call it a day (really early), as I still am not completely over the plane ride – more sleep is needed. So back to the metro, and down more steps and on the train back to the hotel.
I crashed when we got to the room and slept for 2 hrs, now I am ready to go again, well maybe not, or maybe across teh street to the resturant we ate at Monday night, and have a fantastic ham and cheese sandwich.
