What a day, and a long one at that.
We started out by taking a walk through the street market by the hotel. Not bad, but didn’t buy anything. Then back at the hotel, we decided to tell them about the leak. It turns out that it is the air conditioning. Two choices, live without air conditioning, or move, we choose to move.
Picked up all our stuff, and moved 50 ft down the hall – not a big move, but enough of a distration. Got everything in and then found the safe locked – back down to the reception to get the guy back up. It was taking a long time, so we left to go over to Jan’s.
The trip on the metro took over 1/2 hr. – to the end of the line in the north. We checked out Jan’s “starving artist” place – big enough for a 3/4 bed a little table at the end, and a closet for a bathroom – ours is a palace compared to hers. From her place we decided to walk to the Montmartre area. Nice long walk along crowed sidewalks that had a market on one side and people who thought women were dirt on the other – nice place to be.
After dodging people for 1/2 hr or so, we got into a more touristy area. We decided to find a nice little cafe and garb a bite to eat, and drink a lot of water. After that we walked up hill to Sacre Coeur. Up the funicular to the church. Again, in a church, so I said some prayers, there was a service going on, so we made a hasty retreat. Nice view from the steps – Paris laid out below.
We decided to wander the streets and get some gelatto. Little winding cobblestone streets with small shops and cafes. We found some very good gellato, and stood on the street and watched a guy juggle a glass ball. Then off down a side street so Jan cold buya small tea set she saw last week.
There was a lady singin Edit Pliaf songs on the street, she was playing an instrument on a small cart – it had a paper tape that she wound through it – I can’t remember what it is called. What an image of Paris to take home. I used my phone to video tape part of it.
Then into the area where all the artists ar “parked” painting and selling their stuff, all “left brain” art as per Jan. Some of it looked not bad. We decided to sit and take in the atmosphere, so double express please….. that will curl my hair. We talked for a couple hours w=and watched the people wander, then up and away to find the metro.
We walked back down the hill to find the stop, maybe another mile, and off to Jan’s gallery (Latin Quarter) to pick up her nvitations for her show. We got to the gallery, and it was closed – darn, she will have to wait until tomorrow to picked up the invitations. So off we wandered back to the Siene and walked along it towards the Tour Eiffel.
We walked and walked and walked, it is so close Jan kept saying – ya right. We walked for 2.5 hr and got to the Trocadro (across the river form the tower) to watch the lights and fiend off teh street merchants. Nice view. We bought some sandwiches from a vendor and sat down to rest our very tired bodies.
After a rest of 1/2hr or so we stumbled over to the metro and caught our respective trains back to our hotels.
Where I stumbled in to sit down and find the internet in our new room is not working. darn, we have to wait until tomorrow morning for the guy to come check it – I said tomorrow afternoon is good.
