Hoover Dam – Sunday

After a late night I was up before 8. We went in search of something to drink. We had a very light breakfast – a soda and a crossant. Then to check out and search for the Hoover Dam.

Well we saw the sign, and off we went toward Bolder City, took the wrong turn, so we drove through the city, and the traffic because of a special event – looked like a farmers market. We finally got through all the traffic, I think the slow down was a hill and a corner, and a lot of California drivers.

WOW! that is a dam big dam – ha! We took the dam tour, so we wandered inside and down one or two of the tunnels – as much as Homeland Security lets anyone do after 9 11. The tour took over an hour and we ended up outside on the top of the dam. We had a old guy as a guide, he looked to be grumpy and maybe a bit on the tipsy side, because he couldn’t stand straight or still. But he turned out to be a neat guy with lots of information and some jokes. We walked back up to the car, stopping along the way to get s drink and a soft pretzel.

Then back in the car and a different way back to Laughlin. Through some different country, which looked to be way more interesting then the flat straight drive we took the other day. But after about 15 minutes, we were back to a flat straight road with nothing but desert to look at. The last 15 minutes were just as good as the first 15. Down through Union Pass and past a rock formation that was giving us the finger. We stopped of at the Colorado Belle and had something more to eat than a bun. Then back to the house to fall onto the couch and watch some baseball playoffs.
