Out into the rain again

An early wake up call. And a wake up call it was. I was the first into the shower, but I was smart. I started the water running and then jumped out. Good idea – only the cold was working. I let it run for a few minutes before I got in. It was still on the cool side, but not enough to take your breath away.
Some on the tour had no hot water as well, and were none to pleased about it. Some how someone forgot to turn off a tap somewhere, and it drained the hot water tank – so no hot water!
The hotel was small and so were the rooms, a quaint place that I actually liked. Squeaky floors and squeaky beds, and little nooks and cranies everywhere. We went through the restaurant to get to our rooms, other took the stairs from the bar.
The sun was shining this morning, early, but it changes to clouds and rain again. Today we came down out of the highlands into Glasgow. The first stop was at Dornie for a pit stop and a photo op of Eilean Donan Castle. Then onward toward toward Fort William, but we were stopped on the road. There was an accident ahead and the road was closed. So Steve found a turn around and we went back the way we came and on to Fort Augusta.
We had our lunch stop here. We had a great lunch, the food was ok, but the company was great, we laughed the whole time. Once back on the coach we got told we were rowdy at the diner. We wandered down the street toward the locks, and we had great timing. They were just bring some boats through. We talked to the one guy and he explained what they did, and why, and how they used to do it before there was such a thing as electronics. It was really raining so we hurried back to the coach and warmth.
Our tour guide had talked to some of the firemen that had come back from the accident, and they said the road was open, so we retraced our route back and onward through Fort William and on to Glasgow.
Along the way we stopped at Glen Coe – what a beautiful valley. If there had been some sunshine it would have been fantastic. Half of us jumped out to take photos, the other half stayed dry and warm. The temp was about 5. We headed ever southward towards Glasgow. We stopped at the Commando Monument. Still raining and windy, but the view was spectacular. Back on the coach and off again. We made one more stop at Loch Lomond – the largest body of water in the British Isles – 30 miles long and 5 miles wide. Again rain and wind.
Onward to Glasgow and back to civilization – a Marriot hotel – but a ways away from any restaurants. We settled ourselves got our bags and then decided we didn’t want to walk anywhere, so down to the bar to get a bite to eat. At least half of the group had stayed in as well. The soup was good again, they sure know how to make soup in this country.

  1. Looks like you are seeing a lot of beautiful country – too bad you aren’t getting some sunshine! This weekend we are finally getting sunshine and warm temperatures – supposed to be 26 today and 29 tomorrow! Keep up the good work of the blog and the pictures – I love it!
    Have fun!
