It was heavy overcast this morning and rain, so we decided to go into Darlington and do some grocery shopping. Emily guided us in the wrong direction at first, because we told her to. Once we figured out where we wanted to go, Emily lead us right there. We wandered the streets for a bit, then to Marks and Spencers for more custard tarts. It was still overcast but had stopped raining so in the car and away to Beamish – a living museum. For Albertans, it is like the Ukrainian Village, only older. There were steam engines, old cars older buildings, lots of people dressed up in the Victorian style. We watched a Birds of Prey exhibition. The guy had a 32 year old buzzard, that had been shot, hit by lightning, hit by a car, and run into a building. Buzzards must have nine lives like cats. Got a few good shots of an eagle or two. We wandered around and saw the town and the pit village. It was neat.
Then back in the car and off to the cottage. We decided to experiment with the washer/dryer. I am running out of tshirts. Good thing the instruction manual is here. So why don’t we have these kind of machines in Canada? It takes up about as much room as a dishwasher, and is both the washer and dryer. Although it seems to take longer to dry stuff. Anyway it worked.
We went to the pub for supper and talked to Norma. I think everyone who is anyone knows who we are. The food was good and so was the beer. When we came out of the pub, we wandered over to the Spar to get a newspaper. Along the way a person stopped and asked for directions to the George and Dragon. We gave them to him, but he looked suprized at our accent. I think he was apprehensive that we knew what we were talking about.
A good day even though there was no sun today.
