Wow what a difference a day makes. The night was long and noisy – both inside and outside the hotel. Planes taking off and landing until late, and loud people wandering the halls at all hours. And to make it worse the bed was as hard as a rock, and the pillows were crap! Then the planes started landing and taking off early this
morning. O well last day, might as well make the most of it. Off to see our last castle – Warkworth – up the coast about 30 miles, should tale about an hour to get there, the roundabouts keep getting in the way.
We saw a farm shop on the way, so we will stop there on the way back and have a nosh. Through the town, recalculating all the way and we came across the castle. We were early and it wasn’t open yet, so we wandered around it, it’s up on a hill. Nice rubble.
Once we got in, we wandered everywhere, in and out of all the doors and stairways. The top of one of the towers was the Duke’s room, there was old furniture, so not completely an empty castle. We talked with the two girls in the shop about all the castles we have seen in the last two weeks, they seemed impressed, but told us we should
have gone to Lindisfarne Priory up the coast. It’s on the list for the next trip. We grabbed a coke and an ice cream and were off.
Up here the sky is blue, and there are no clouds or wind, and about 20C, looks like clouds south of here. We found the farm shop we passed on the way, and stopped for something to eat. We had BLTs on buns – o so good buns, and I presume the bacon was from the farm too. Good thing we didn’t have the carvery, we saw two plates go by and they were heaped with food, they smelled good.
Into the car and our last ride down the coast back to the hotel and give up the car. We went through the car and
removed everything, then dropped it off, and I think we might even get some money back because we gave it up
early. Ya!
Now to wait for the courier to pick up Emily and the keys and had her off to the next person.
We are now sitting down and looking back at all the “rubble” we have seen. Some majestic places, and other not so. The food we have eaten and all the different beers that I have tried (one more night to go on that). It has been a long two weeks, but very memorable.
Well you certainly have had a “castle good time” this time around! Glad to see you had such a good vacation. Can hardly wait for you to get home – and phone and tell me all about it! Have a good flight back to Canada…….
Yes we have had a great time. Be home Monday night.
