Wake up call at quarter after seven and bags out for a 7:45. Breakfast was to start at 7:30 we went out to the elevators and were met by a couple from the tour that said no breakfast is until 7:45 so we wandered back to the room. On the way we met another couple of people on the tour and we told them as well it was 7:45. About two minutes later we had a knock on the door and it was Jeff saying he lied breakfast was 7:30. So off we titled breakfast it wasn’t as good as Madrid was but it was possible.
On the coach at 8:45 and now we went toward Porto. We stopped for a half hour break along the way so that we could comply with the drivers rules and regulations. We are wandering through mountains and then down through fields. We stopped again for a comfort stop but just for 10 minutes long enough to go to the bathroom. We came in to Puerto am across the big bridge and looked at the two iron bridges on either side which are really good. We drove up and down narrow winding streets that had people wandering all over. We cross back over the bridge to Gaia where we went down by the water and stopped. We had an hour and a half to wander and look in the shops and to grab something for lunch. We were wandering up the side street when Jeff and Elizabeth called us and said come sit with us and so we did.
We had a selections of tapas first was a set of four pasty’s one had shrimp one had pork in the other two had beef basically deep-fried perogies. Then a plate with cheese and bread and olives. The cheese was really nice and we still haven’t figured out what kind it was. Another plate with Spanish ham, Black bread and olives. We had a fourth dish which looked like pieces of sausage and pork in a spicy sauce with vegetables and pieces of bread around the edge.
We had the wave down the waiter to get our bill we still didn’t get a bill he just yelled out how much we owed so we threw some money on the table and wandered off the find the bus.
We actually didn’t find the bus, we had to walk down the street because it was blocked for construction and the bus couldn’t get down. We walked down to visit a place that made port. We had a quick tour of the place mainly through the dark winding hallways that went uphill. In the olden days they used to roll the port barrels down the hallways so that’s why they were always on the slope. We ended the tour in the tasting room where we tasted the regular port and the white port. I like the regular port better it tasted like chokecherry wine.
From there we walked out of the place and down the hill and around the corner to find the bus. We drove around in circles to get back up onto the bridge and across into Porto where we went to the hotel.
Tonight supper is included and it’s at the hotel so we don’t have far to go. We’re both a little pooped from all the walking in the last three days in the hot weather. Also we have both been waking up in the middle of the night and not really going back to sleep.
Here in Porto along the coast it’s cooler only about 26° but moist.
After we have supper we might or might not go for a walk in the area to see what’s around. Later hopefully will FaceTime with our friends from Australia who are in Barcelona right now I think.
