Travel day. We are on the move to Brisbane.
We got picked up at our hotel and wisked off to the Cairns airport. Now here we sit. I spied an internet connection, so guess what I am doing ?? The weather is the same – blue sky, some clouds about, and the sea is like glass, and of course – hot and humid.
We are following cyclone Hamish down the coast. Over night it was a category 5, but they think it will be down graded to a category 2 when it hits land sometime tomorrow, and north of where we will be.
The plane was late leaving and Vicki was antsy to get on. She was standing up at least 15 or 20 minutes before we loaded, asking me to stand up too. I said no, that I was quite comfortable sitting down and waiting.
Anyway we left about 20 minutes late, and didn’t really make up any time. I was sitting in a row all by myself, so I moved to the window seat, and Vicki moved accross the and sat in the isle seat. I took some photos of the coast.
We then headed inland to miss the cyclone. The ride wasn’t really bumpy until we were coming down to land.
Ross met us at the airport, and we took a drive through Brisbane. We took a walk around Newstead house, and then stopped at St, John’s church. Again, my relative will be happy that I was in a church, and said a prayer for everyone. What a gorgeous church, lovely stone arches – largest in teh southern hemishpere.
Then onward toward Mermaid Waters, as the traffic is starting to pick up.
Heather met us when we got to their house, and what a lovely house, it looks out onto water. We had bbq’d steak and sausage, and salad for supper, out on the deck. We talked about all we had done and seen so far.
We reminised about the Europe trip, and wished we could do it again, with all the same people.
