Surviving the freeway….

Of course we had to go to SloughHouse to get fresh vegatables, and take photos of the produce.
Not much in the last couple of days – we are alive – which is a good thing. This trip so far is not going
according to plan. Driving with the amount of cars, and the number of lanes isn’t that difficult, but the ladders
falling off trucks can be a bit disconcerning. While driving home last night, going about 70 mph, the truck in
front lost a ladder. The car beside us slowed down, but didn’t move over, so other than standing on the brakes, and swearing there was not much I could do, except try and cross my fingers. The ladder bounced a couple of times, and slid toward us. Just before it stopped it bounced again and slid sideways into the other lane. I took my foot off the brake and moved a over a little, and missed the thing. A great big thanks to the big guy upstairs. Needless to say the drive home was a bit slower.

We weren’t quit that lucky today. While driving on the same freeway, an old RV in front of us blew a tire, and
there was rubber all over the place. I moved into the far lane, but didn’t see a piece of, I think, rubber, we
ran over it with the back tire, but didn’t loose control. No whoomp whoomp whoomp, so we thought we had totaly survived again. Into my favorite store (Frys) to pick up a charger for a firend of mine, and see if anything catches my eye. We checked the tire, and everything seemed ok. When we left, the tire was ok as well, but after a couple of bumps on the freeway, we started to hear a strange noise, and smell buring rubber. We got over to the side of the road (under a tree), and took a look – dead flat tire – more swearing. Called AMA and they were there within 20 minutes. The Highway Patrol stopped as well – nice guy. On our way in about a 1/2 hour from the whomp whomp whomp of the tire on the road. So much or a whole afternoon in the pool.

The hole in the side of the tire was about the size of my little finger – thank god we didn’t have a blow out.
Anyway we survived, and did spend some time in the pool – cooling off.
