We decided to try the stove again. After covering the smoke detector with the shower cap, I turned on the fan and started one of the burners. We had fried egg on toast. Success! no alarm this time.
Today we headed off towards Hadrian s Wall, going to the west coast first then up and around along the wall and back down to the cottage. The first bit we have traveled before so nothing new. After about 3/4 of an hr we went through Bernard Castle, and finally saw the castle the place is named for. Although we didn’t stop, we had farther afield to go. Off toward Workington, through the North Pennies and the Western Lake District. We saw some beautiful country side. As we were driving along we spotted a gorgeous castle, just sitting there waiting for us. I screeched around the corner off the motorway and onto the side road leading to the castle. What a find, Brougham Castle. Wow! we wandered about up and down and around and around. Neat place. Nothing here to steal except the rocks, so we could take photos and touch the stone. The sun was shining and there was blue sky, so nice.
Back into the car and off again westward toward the Irish Sea. We got as far as we could and then turned north, we didn’t stop until Maryport, where we had lunch. We saw the sea from afar, but didn’t get close. Didn’t find a road to it.
Anyway off to Hadrians Wall. We stopped at a couple of places, but because it was after 4 we didn’t stay long. We walked around at Walltown Crags, after driving up a very narrow (trees on one side, valley on the other)lane to get to the parking. Then we stopped at Cawfields Quarry, took a couple of photos and headed back to the village, with Emily recalculating all the way.
We decided to try the take away again, this time we had pizza, not bad for English pizza.
