Woke up to the wind howling down the chimneys and the rain dripping down. It is heavy overcast and no end in site. This seems to be a day to stick around the village, o wait it’s Sunday, and we have a reservation at the Bay Horse for their carvery – yah! So I guess we stay put, at least for a little while.
Time to describe the cottage. It is located on the edge of the green, across from the church, sort of. The village hall is in between. Up on the left side is the Bay Horse pub – good food and good beer. The main floor consists of two rooms at the front, a room with a small couch and arm chair and a buffet and chair, with a small side board table and two chairs by the window. The room is dominated by a big metal “fireplace” which looks a couple of hundred years old. It has various niches in it, so I think this was the main “kitchen” at one time. The other room is a smaller sitting room with a couple of straight back chairs facing a fireplace that backs onto the one in the other room. Behind these two rooms is a long narrow modern kitchen, with a staircase leading up to the bedrooms and the main bathroom. Under the stairs is a little bathroom with a small sink and toilet. The kitchen has 2 smoke detectors that like to go off if you turn on the stove. That’s why the shower caps to go on them when cooking. The door to the back yard is by the bathroom. Upstairs are two bedrooms and the main bathroom with a clawfooted old fashioned tub and a very modern shower. In the backyard there is a small patio with two wrought iron chairs.
Off to the carvery for lunch. The food was great, and the sticky toffee pudding with custard was very filling. Now off back to the cottage to sit and read the new-papers we bought. It is a good day to have a lie about.
Very impressed with your “English talk”!!! It is raining here today too – just hope that now that it has started it will not forget to quit! Still haven’t heard anything about Keith’s surgery – just taking life one day at a time waiting for the call! He has gone to Prince George today to pick up some supplies for the concession. Love the pictures you are putting up. Some of the inside of the house would be nice?? Not much new here…..Can’t believe a week of your holiday has gone by already…………enjoy the rest of your time there.
