Out the door and in the car and off toward Richmond to see an Abbey and a castle. We set up Emily and we headed down the A1.
We missed the turn into Easby Abbey and Emily had to recalculate again! now we had to go down the back road to get there. Back roads seem to be more interesting than going in the front. We mistook a big old building for the Abbey, turned in and were greeted by a person for the B&B we had wandered into. We missed (ha again) the small alley leading down the hill.
Once we headed down the hill we were amazed, the sun was shinning on the very green grass and the place looked great. We parked in the cobbled parking lot and wandered into the ruins. There were a few people out and about, but not enough to get in the way. Once we were down looking around into everything we walked back up the hill to take a photo or two looking down on the Abbey. Nice.

In the car and off toward the castle, I wonder where it is? O wait there it is on the hill overlooking the village. Now to get to it. Follow Emily. We parked on the cobbled street, found a market seller to get a disc to park and then wandered into the castle. It was a majestic one, up on the hill overlooking the market square and all the houses. We finally got to go to the top of a tower, about 300 feet above the rest. Great view! We wandered in and around everything and bumped into some fellow Canadians who were doing the coast to coast walk. We said we did that, only we drove ! We went back down to the car, and checked out the cobbled street. We drove around in circles, just to drive on it and then back in the direction of Clive’s Cottage.

We had supper at the Bay Horse, and I couldn’t resist in taking a beer mug – a Timothy Taylor’s beer mug. I asked if I could buy one, and they all looked at me kinda stunned, so I said ok, I’ll just put this in my pocket and go home. They said that would do fine.

Even though it started out overcast and raining it turned into a gorgeous day, blue sky and puffy white clouds.
Once minor mishap……… a huge spider decided to join us in the lounge – huge, with a foot span of about 2.5 to 3 inches, grayish brown and ugly and mean looking. I smashed him flat with a bottle and then triple bagged him in case he decided he could survive. Now I suppose it will rain even more now that I have killed a spider!!
