Up early and down for breakfast at 6:30. More selection than in Copenhagen.
On the bus by 8:00 and away on our city tour with a local expert – Howcome – not his name but close. We toured the new city and then back to the s city and a bit of a walk through the winding streets. All this guy talked about was the great system of taxes they had and how little they paid for any service. They get 18 months of parental leave and max 6 months is for the father and 80% pay. Very little history except for the king that was around when the Vasa ship went down 15 minutes into its maiden voyage.
After our little walkabout we got back on the coach and went to the museum where the Vasa ship was. They raised it after 300 years and restored it, and still are. Huge ship and neat place. Too bad the tour guide kept going on and on. Finally we got an hour to explore by ourselves. Neat place, very cool ship.
The back to the old town for 2 hours of wandering. We went through the military horse museum. Wow that was great a stuffed horse and all the armour, and all the old carriages in the basement. Hopefully I got some great shots.
Then we went to the square and people watched. Lots of old tourists and strange locals. One young women dressed as a cat with painted face and arms hissing and clawing at all the young guys that went by.
Nice and warm in the sun. Then back on the coach and off the the ship for our sailing to Helsinki.
We walked about a 1/2 km from where we checked in to the gangway for the ship. We found our A class cabin – not that big, but huge by Galapagos standards. The bathroom is the same size though.
We wandered around a bit before congregating for supper at the best smorgasbord around. Not bad, and all the grog you can drink.
After supper we went the the stern of the ship and sat and watched the hundreds of little islands go by. There were 8 of us up there by the disco and out of the wind. We chatted and watched the sun go lower in the horizon until we were tired and then back down to our cabin.
Our tour director said the sailing would be so smooth no one could get sick, I said wanna make a bet??
Gravel works.
