Monday

Up and at’m again. Quiet sleep after closing the window. A short drive today after we visit a wildlife park. We will end up in Ivalo this afternoon.
Out to the wildlife park. Nice walk through the forest. There was only 2 animals that we haven’t seen before. The Muskox and the wild Boar. Saw brown bears, polar bears, about 4 different owls, lots if geese, deer and otters. Wolverines and minx.
We wandered for 2 hours and then back to the hotel to pick up the rest of the group.
Then onward north. We stopped at a forest reserve with a small gold mining town – like Fort Edmonton, only smaller and less people. One of the guys there was berating the tour companies for passing by all the small tourist places for the big ones that are just traps and very expensive. I bought Canadian change from the guy, he said he was a money trap for all kinds and better he get rid of it.
Back on the coach with another stop at a cross country ski resort high up – 300 meters – with a sporting tower. We could see Russia – 40 km away. It was 12 degrees with a 20kph wind – a little bracing.
There we had a “flourish” some Finnish liquor, cloudberry and a chocolate mint. Similar to Palinka, but not as strong.
Then into Ivalo and the hotel. Nice little room. We finally have an enclosed shower.
Down to the bar for a drink before our buffet supper and then maybe a walk on the river.
Supper was very good, pork and of course fish. They said fish was good.
My walk after supper consisted of going out the back of the hotel, taking a few shoots of the river and some of other people for them and then back up to the room. Too many mosquitos.

  1. Too bad about the mozzies. When you get home, there will probably be some Canadian ones to greet you. They are just starting, and with all of the rain we have had, there is a lot of standing water for them to reproduce.
