Today is the first day of our tour, so we were up before 6 had breakfast and on the coach by 7:30. Off on our city tour.
We drove out into rush hour traffic. Took a while to get over into the old town. We were going to the parliament buildings but the queen was visiting so nor tours, instead we went to the palace and had a look around the outside. We stopped by the harbour where the royal yacht was anchored. I almost got run over by a bicycle. They have the right away here. Cars have a 100% tax on them, so everyone rides a bike.
We drove past the citadel on to see the little mermaid. Small statue on a rock in the water.
And there we met up with a guy we play Slopitch with. 3 weeks ago I told him we would see one another in Copenhagen and we did.
Then on to the Rosenborg Castle to see the Crown Jewels. More guards but this time in green fatigues. Big gardens all around.
I had a big scare there I got a card error on my camera and it wouldn’t use that Card any longer. Crap!!
Then back on the coach and off to the tourist district to drop off most of the group. We had wandered there yesterday so we went back to the hotel, mainly so I could download my images to make sure the card was working
Success, I got the images off my card.
Had a sandwich from the quick stop next door and a Tim tam for desert. Our friends brought us 24 packages of them, so we need to eat some so the rest fit in the suitcase for the way home.
We shared a panini from the Quick Mart across the street. Better than stuff from 7/11 at home. Then on the bus for a tour of the island North Zealand – east of Copenhagen.
Through the country side to the Fredriksborg castle, the largest resistance castle in Scandinavia. We toured through a lot of rooms but didn’t have time to wander our selves. Too bad. Then on through a quaint little village to the summer palace of the queen. We walked up to the gate and stopped. The Royal Guards were doing a drill. Thought they were practicing for something for tomorrow. One if the Aussies got yelled st by a guard for touching a building. I was in about the same spot 5 minutes earlier and didn’t get yelled at.
Then we walked back down the road to enjoy some ice cream and who should drive by to the palace, but the Queen. No one saw her until she was too far away.
Back on the coach and back into Copenhagen by way if the coastal road – the Danish Riviera. Nice drive.
Back at the hotel we got sorted out and the 4 of us went in search of something to eat. We didn’t sign up for the traditional dinner. We wandered to the canal and found a pizza place. Sat outside under umbrellas in the sun and enjoyed the atmosphere.
Back to the hotel to pack our bags and get ready for our departure tomorrow morning.
