May 3
Woke up to a white landscape. It was snowing again. O well.
Breakfast was good, little omelets, bacon, pancakes, fresh fruit and cheeses.
We were on the road early today, about 8:30. The road was good for a while, then the snow hit – a blizzard, couldn’t see very far, but the roads seem to be clear if snow, must melt fast.
Stopped to get some shots of horses with big black clouds in the background. The horses came to visit me. More photos. Back in the car and away we go through the snow storm. We stopped at what looked like an abandoned fish place. There were a couple of partial cement buildings and a broken wharf.
Back in the car and through more snow, looks wet and heavy. We drove for a while listening to the gps tell us where to go. We thought we were lost, the road was narrow and unmarked but we came out to the road we wanted.
We found the place we are staying at tonight and stopped to say we were in the area. Off again to find the geyser and more waterfalls.
Freaking cold at the geyser. +1 and 39km wind. We parked at the end of the lot and made sandwiches for lunch. Good bread, good sandwiches. The we kitted up and went to see the geyser field. Not bad, not that big, but impressive.
Hurried back to the car to get warm, and off to the Gullfoss waterfall.
Then Snow/hail/freezing rain and then sunshine all in about 30 minuets.
Walked to the viewing area and took a few shots then up and in the gift shop to get out of the wind. When we went in it was ok when we came out in 15 minuets it was a blizzard!!
Onward we’ll backward to our abide for the night, a farm. A little cabin on the edge of the hill. They have ice cream here.
We will be sampling some a bit later.
