We were up and out the door by 7 this morning. Carla and Neil had to go to Port Broughton for work, so we tagged along. It took us 2 hours to get there, and we travelled through country that looked like Montana after harvest.
Got called away for supper. We had Thia food I believe – very good.
Anyway, back to the day. It was cool, only +19, but the wind off the antartic was cold. We got to Port Broughton, had a quick tour, and got dropped off. We wandered a bit, but we cold!, so we found a little backery, got a drink and a doughnut, and sat in the sun for a bit.
Then we were up and off exploring this little town. We wandered up and down the streets, then walked down the beach along the explorers trail. The breeze died down adn the sun got warmer.
We wandered back to the main street and grabbed a sandwich from a take away place, this time we sat in the shade and ate.
We wandered the town a little more, making our way back to the car. We sat in the lawn bowling area, in the shade again, and waited for a couple of minutes. We had good timing, because Neil & Carla were out shortly.
Then in the car and off to Fishermans Bay – they were told you can’t come to Port Broughton without seeing this. So down the road to the place where everyone comes to stay in the summer “shacks” (cottages) by the sea. We drove around for a couple of minutes, and then away we went toward somewhere that Neil wouldn’t tell.
We ended up in Clare Valley in amongst some winerys. The area is similar to Napa valley in California. Rolling hills, that are brown from the drought, big trees, and lots of grapes. We stopped in at the info center to get a map of the area, so we could find the Seven Hills Winery. +30 now.
What a neat place, it is run by the Jesuits. Old stone buildings, a big church and some ruins. we wandered around there for some time. Then back in the car and down another road toward another winery, but we are too lae, it is 4 and most of them close at that time. We stopped at a big houe that was used in a film, but that had closed as well. But the highlight of the day was abound….. kangaroos – 2 of them sleeping under a tree. I got out and took a couple of photos, they seemd to pose for me, and then ran off when another car approached.
Back in the car and off again, toward Adelaide, with Neil trying to find a bakery along the way – no luck with that.
Back into the city and back home, to have some take away, and visit with Neil & Carla’s daughter and son in law and grand daughter.
Then show time again, and dvds of Japan and New York – great photos, and more ideas on where to travel next time.
