March 14

Slept like a log.
We are off somewhere for the day, I don’t know where. I haven’t put up any new photos for a bit, I will try for later today to get organized.

Crikey Mate – Australia Zoo day.
So we had breakfast and then figured out what to do, it is a zoo day. In the car and off to the zoo. It was about a 2 hour drive up past Brisbane, and then inland a little bit.
What a neat place, lots of water dragons running about, and birds of all kinds.
We took the shuttle around, we were just going to take it to the elephants & tigers, but we didn’t get off, so back to the start. Off we got, and walked back to the elephants.
There was a zoo keepers talk, where they washed the biggest of the 3. Kinda neat to watch her change colour from a dull grey to black with pink accents.Elephants are really smart, adn it is true they are afraid of mice, actually anything small. The one keeper talked about earlier in the morning when one of the elephants found a toad in the mud pool, she stomped her feet and threw mud at it, and picked upa stick and waved it at the toad.
Then on to the tigers, they brought our 6 of the younger tigers while we were there – they just wandered arouund checking our which other tigers had been there, and spraying over top.
They have a bird area and a wet land area as well.
While we were walking to the crocaseum we spotted a cheeta having a cheeta ice pop. 2 handlers had 1 of the cheetas out of the cage, and were feeding it some ice with meat in it.
We grabbed something to eat, and then sat down for the show. There were some birds forst, so I’ve seen a black cockatoo. Then they closed all the gates, and brought out 1 crocadile – a big one. They got him to jump up out of the water – they are really fast.
After the show, we wandered off to see the cassowaries and dingos. And more Koalas.
Back to see the birds of prey show. The lorakeets can fly at 100 ks, and they fly in groups, as they are small, and the bigger birds will pick off the slowest one, lorakeets try to fly in close groups.
Through the snake place – ooo saw one eating a rat, and a big python eating a rabit – ugh!
Out the door and off to see a pub that has become a tourist attraction – wierd shaped building.
Then we piled back in the car and off back to the house.
Ross went and got take away fish & chips – it was so good ( for fish ).

  1. We have envy-itis! What is that? It’s an infectious thing that just won’t go away! Your travelling partner must have heard about about it in her previous line of work, hehe. We saw the movie of Australia and it was so beautiful to watch, scenery and Hugh were breath-taking! I want to be there too!
