Happy St. Paddy’s Day !
Well we are up and wondering what we are going to do today. After some discussion, it was decided to let us Canadians loose on the world.
We are going to take the bus down to Surfers to wander around and shop. Wahoo!! I am looking for a pub that serves green beer.
So away we go, Ross walked us to the bus stop. It felt like it was our first day of school. We got off the bus in Surfers Paridise – it was easy. Even though we got here before most of the store and cafes are open, there are a lot of people wandering about.
We walked down to the beach and out onto the sand, ripped off our shoes and into the water we went. It is warm out even at 9:30 in the morning, the water feels nice. After washing off our feet, we headed up the street to wander the shops.
Power shopping today, in and out of the stores with a list. Then down the street to Q1 – the world’s tallest residential building. We went up to the 77th floor in 43 seconds. My earrs popped a couple of times. What a view, we could see a very long way up and down the coast. We sat for a while just looking at the view, and then back down to the ground in another 43 seconds.
Now off to find something to eat for lunch. We walked back down the street and finally settled on the Hog’s Breath Inn, good food.
SO now to find the bus and head back to the house. We went back out to the street where the bus would travel and stood there looking for the bus stop, and what should come along, but the bus – how good is that ?
On the bus and back to the house, we decided after all that shopping we needed a dip in the pool. Vicki first called Canada to find our how things are, and I jumped in straight away – o so nice to cool down.
We got dressed and then off to a park to wander in the rain forest again. We walked down and around to the Natural Bridge, and again marvelled at the trees and ferns, and the birds were making a racket. So nice and without many people. There was a little stream and a waterfall and a cave and glow worms – so cool.
We walked back up to the car and waitied a little bit, before we headed back sown in the dark. The frogs and crickets and some birds were very vocal.
Going back in the dark was so cool. Totally different walk. We even missed teh corner to go down into the cave, and had to back track.
WOW the roof was so much closer than the glow worm cave in New Zealand. It was like we could reach out and touch them, the roof was so close. There was even some lichen that glowed in the dark. We stood around and marvelled at the little things. They were in the over hangs along the path as well. When we got back up to where the car was parked, there were about 4 bus loads of kids getting organized to come down. Very good thing we got there early.
In the car and off we went. We stopped beside the road and got out of the car. The clouds have moved on the the stars are out – another big WOW. I haven’t seen that many stars in a long time. And so quiet out here. It is amazing that you can be 1/2 hr from the coast, and hardly anyone lives out here. Lots of trees.
Back in the car and back to the house, to have a late supper

  1. Happy St. Paddy’s to you! Were you able to find green beer? Or do they do that in Aussie-land???? I sent Andy some pics and he emailed me yesterday that the project is a go and will be published in the Flin Flon reminder on Wed Mar 18 – Aunt Mary’s 91st birthday! I sent about 5 pictures to him and first he asked for more of him and AM, AM alone, the candlestick holder. Then I got another email saying he didn’t need more pics and the article was a go! He is supposed to send me the website for the article. If he doesn’t the paper’s name is Flin Flon Reminder.
Have a good week……………..still love reading your blog and seeing your pics.

  2. Happy St.Patrick’s Day to all of you. Sounds like you guys are having a great time!!!! K&J
