Had breakfast and then onto the coach for a tour of Edinburgh. We drove around the new town and then the old town. We stopped at Hollyrood Palace for a photo op. Looked at the new parliment buildings which are in need of repair after 6 years – they don’t build them like they used too. Then on to the castle.
The coach dropped us at the bottom, and we walked up into the castle, stopping along the way for a group photo. We all looked our best, everyone huddled together for warmth. It was about 12, but the wind was blowing in off the north sea at about 50kph. Needless to say we all looked wind swept.
Our tour guide for Edinburgh gave us a description of the place, told us a few stops we had to amke, and then left us onour own for about an hour.
We wandered the castle, looking in all the crooks and crannies. We slowly wandered back toward the pickup point for our coach. The on toward the Royal Yacht Britannia. Steve our Tour Guide told us we wouldn’t need our coats for this. To get to the ship we had to go through a shopping mall.
This is where Steve asked the question…. How many tourists can fit in an elevator before it won’t work?
I guess it is 17 and a stranger, who looked helpless when we all crammed into the elevator. When it didn’t move, we got off and took the escalator instead!
Once past that problem, we got our tickets and preseeded onto the ship. Nice old ship, we almost were blown off the outer decks by the wind. After wandering about for over an hour, we found a food court and had a bit of lunch, then onto the coach and back to the hotel.
Tonight is is Scottish Highland night. Off to see a show and eat some haggis. Well at least we saw a show. Kilts flying all over, lots of dancing and singing. And then back to the hotel.
We quickly changed out clothes and then back out and down to Princes Street to take some photos of the castle at night. At least the wind has died down.
